Characteristics and Application of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene Fiber
Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber, also known as high-strength and high-modulus polyethylene fiber, is currently the fiber with the highest specific strength and specific modulus in the world. It is a fiber spun from polyethylene with a molecular weight of 1 million to 5 million.
The three high-performance fibers in the world today are: aramid fiber, carbon fiber, and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber. At present, aramid fiber is only produced in a small amount due to technical problems in China; carbon fiber is still in the stage of testing and primary production, and the product can only be used in durable Since UHMWPE fiber broke through the key production technology in Tongyizhong in 1994, several UHMWPE fiber industrial production bases have been formed in China.
Features
1. High specific strength and high specific modulus. The specific strength is more than ten times that of steel wire with the same cross-section, and the specific modulus is second only to super-grade carbon fiber.
2. The fiber density is low, the density is 0.97-0.98g/cm3, and it can float on the water surface.
3. The elongation at break is low, the work at break is large, and it has a strong ability to absorb energy, so it has outstanding impact resistance and cut resistance.
4. Anti-ultraviolet radiation, anti-neutron and γ-ray, high specific energy absorption, low dielectric constant, high electromagnetic wave transmittance.
5. Chemical corrosion resistance, wear resistance, long flex life.
Physical properties:
Density: 0.97~0.98g/cm3. It is less dense than water and can float on water.
Strength: 2.8~4N/tex.
Modulus: 91~140N/tex.
Elongation: 3.5% to 3.7%.
The impact absorption energy is nearly twice as high as that of para-aramid fiber, the wear resistance is good, and the friction coefficient is small, but the melting point under stress is only 145-160°C.
