How are the grades of carbon fiber cloth divided?

Carbon fiber cloth is a high-performance material with light weight, high strength, high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance, and is widely used in various fields. In the manufacturing process of carbon fiber cloth, carbon fiber cloth needs to be divided into different grades according to its performance and use requirements.

 

The classification of carbon fiber cloth is mainly based on factors such as material density, fiber weaving method and fiber strength. Some common carbon fiber cloth grades are introduced below.

 

1. Standard carbon fiber cloth: Also known as industrial grade carbon fiber cloth, it is the most common and basic grade of carbon fiber cloth. Its density is generally around 1.5 g/cm³, the fiber weaving method is mainly plain weave, and the fiber strength is above 3000 MPa. Standard carbon fiber cloth is suitable for the production of general industrial products and has good strength and stiffness. According to the difference in strength, it can be divided into carbon fiber primary cloth and carbon fiber secondary cloth. The strength of the primary carbon fiber cloth is greater than or equal to 3400MPa, and the strength of the secondary carbon fiber cloth is greater than or equal to 3000MPa. Some will also be divided into 200g and 300g carbon fiber cloth according to different weights.

 

2. High-strength carbon fiber cloth: This grade of carbon fiber cloth has higher requirements for fiber material selection and production technology. Its density is relatively low, generally around 1.4 g/cm³. There are various fiber weaving methods, including plain weave, twill weave, satin weave, etc. The strength of fiber is usually above 4000 MPa. High-strength carbon fiber cloth is widely used in the aerospace field, such as manufacturing aircraft parts, missile casings, etc.

 

3.Ultra-high modulus carbon fiber cloth: The main feature of this grade of carbon fiber cloth is the high modulus of the fiber, which can reach more than 400 GPa. The density is also relatively low, generally around 1.35 g/cm³. Ultra-high modulus carbon fiber cloth is generally prepared by spindle or dry methods, which can produce extremely thin and rigid materials. This grade of carbon fiber cloth is suitable for high-performance composite material manufacturing, such as manufacturing aerospace components, sports equipment, etc.
