What is meta-aramid, what is para-aramid, and what is the difference between them?

Poly-m-phenylene isophthalamide fiber is called meta-aramid for short; poly-para-phenylene terephthalamide fiber is called para-aramid for short.

The difference is as follows:

1. The molecular arrangement is different. The meta-aramid fiber has a zigzag molecular chain arrangement; the para-aramid fiber has a linear molecular chain arrangement.

2. The production process is different. Due to the complicated process of para-aramid two-step imitation process, the requirements for equipment are very high and the process is complicated, while meta-aramid only needs one step.

3. Different uses. Meta-aramid is widely used as bonding fiber in the manufacture of special paper-based materials. Para-aramid fibrid fiber is a new differentiated product of meta-aramid fibrid fiber. Its role in the field of high-performance paper-based materials

Extended information

The main advantages of using para-aramid fiber products:

Reduces noise, instability and vibrating sensation; reduces wear rate; smooths and polishes results; reduces corrosion; increases strength; improves edge stability; prevents brake pads from cracking.

Aramid fiber features:

Aramid fiber has extremely high strength, modulus, toughness, and has excellent insulation performance and high temperature resistance. The length of aramid fiber is mainly determined by the performance of the product, and the specification is 2~80mm, or even longer.

The aramid paper-based material prepared from it has the characteristics of high strength and high modulus, light flame retardant, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and excellent insulation performance. It can be used as a high temperature resistant insulation material for electric motors, transformers, reactors, etc. Equipment is an important basic material to promote the development of modern power industry.
