The Difference Between Aramid Fiber And Carbon Fiber
The difference between aramid fiber and carbon fiber is different application fields, different mechanical properties, different thermal stability, and different thermochemical properties;
Different application fields: Carbon fiber is a new type of fiber material with a carbon content of more than 95%. It can be divided into three types: polyacrylonitrile-based, asphalt-based and viscose-based. Among them, polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber has the best performance; carbon fiber is called It is "color gold", which shows that its value and price are high, and it is mainly used in aerospace and defense forces. With the improvement of the energy of large-tow carbon fiber, it is increasingly used in industrial manufacturing and civilian fields.
Aramid fiber is a new type of synthetic fiber, which is essentially different from carbon fiber. Aramid fiber also has the characteristics of high strength and high modulus. It is also very good in high temperature resistance, acid and alkali resistance, etc. It is often used in bulletproof products and building materials. , special protective clothing and electronic equipment.
The mechanical properties are different: the tensile strength of T300 carbon fiber is 3000MPa, the elastic modulus is 225GPa, the elongation at break is 1.7%, and the density is 1.7g/cm3. The performance of T1000 carbon fiber is higher than that of T300. The two series of carbon fibers, high-strength and high-modulus, have a larger performance range.
The tensile strength of aramid fiber is 2815MPa, the modulus of elasticity is 126GPa, the elongation at break is 2.5%, and the density is 1.44g/cm3. In terms of mechanical properties, the upper limit of carbon fiber is higher, especially in terms of strength and imitation surface .
Different thermal stability: Aramid fiber has good thermal stability. Under the action of high temperature, it will not deform before decomposing, it can be used for a long time at 180°C, and its strength and modulus will not decrease after acting at 150°C, in addition, its thermal expansion coefficient is -2x10-6 ;
Compared with aramid fiber, the thermal stability of carbon fiber is also superior, and its thermal expansion coefficient is even smaller than that of aramid fiber, which is -1.4x10-6.
Different thermochemistry: The chemical properties of carbon fiber are similar to those of carbon, except that it can be oxidized by strong oxidants, it is inert to general alkali; when the temperature in the air is higher than 400°C, obvious oxidation will occur , produce C0 and CO2; carbon fiber has good corrosion resistance to common organic solvents, acids and alkalis, insoluble substances expand, and its corrosion resistance is outstanding, so there is no rust problem at all.
Aramid fiber has good medium resistance and strong resistance to neutral chemical substances, but it is easily attacked by various acids and alkalis, especially strong acids, and its water resistance is also poor.
